Re.Action to Matisse's Pink Nude (1935)

In search of ideas for the exhibition Re.Action, I leafed through art magazines and reflected on the responses that artists and their works evoke in me.

Matisse's wonderful painting Pink Nude immediately inspired me. I felt compelled to translate the reclining figure into sculpture.

I was fascinated by its monumentality and by what I perceive as the eternal feminine — the rounded forms, inner strength, the power of womanhood and motherhood.

I particularly wanted to emphasize the contrast between the earthy brown-red terracotta stoneware, the intense ultramarine blue and the gold leaf.

Together, these elements lend the figure warmth, elegance and the majesty of a goddess.
